Houghton Bay Sunday 16 Feb. - lots of Juv Goldfinch

Kate, Ross, Sarah, Kyle and I had a reasonable afternoon's banding at the Houghton Bay stream today. We caught 37 birds of 9 species with 33 new and 4 recaptures. There was a surprising lack of Silvereye but the most Goldfinch ever caught at this site in a day.

Goldfinch - 16 (1) all except one (including the recap) were juveniles

House Sparrow - 1 (0) the last bird of the day and a big drop from recent sessions.
Silvereye - 4 (2) the oldest recap banded June 2011
Fantail - 2 (0)
Grey Warbler - 2 (0)
Tui - 1 (0)
